LSC students perform alongside the Vienna Festival Ballet
Two students from London Studio Centre recently performed with the Vienna Festival Ballet on their tour of Swan Lake.
Catherine Walsh and Jacqueline Back, who both specialise in classical ballet on their BA (Hons) Theatre Dance course, joined the company at the Bridlington Spa and the Windsor Theatre Royal as they tour their production of one of the world’s best-loved ballets. In preparing for the production, Catherine and Jacqueline have gained invaluable experience of rehearsing and performing alongside dancers and directors with many years of professional experience.
Their performances continue the link between London Studio Centre and the Vienna Festival Ballet: four graduates of the college – Emily-Joy Smith, Samantha Bosshardt, Eloïse Hymas and Miguel Piquer – are currently performing with the company, with Emily-Joy and Miguel in the principal roles. Emily-Joy is one of the VFB’s regular principal dancers, playing roles such as Odette (Swan Lake), the Evil Queen (Snow White) and the Sugar Plum Fairy (The Nutcracker).
The Vienna Festival Ballet was formed in 1980 by Peter Mallek with the aim of bringing dazzling performances of both classic and contemporary works to a new audience around the UK and Europe. They typically tour for eight months of the year with a company of international dancers.
Nic and Nikki Espinosa attended the performance in Windsor and were delighted to see current students sharing the stage with graduates in this classic work. We wish the company the very best of luck with their upcoming tour of The Nutcracker.
