LSC graduate stars in musical hit of the season
LSC alumnus Richard Pitt has been performing in the cast of the smash hit The Scottsboro Boys in its hugely successful West End run, which plays its final show at the weekend.
Kander and Ebb's final work, the musical came to London last year in a sell-out production at the Young Vic, gaining six Olivier Award nominations and widespread critical acclaim, following up with a West End run from October. The satirical show follows the arrest and imprisonment of nine black men accused of rape in 1930s Alabama.
Richard took on the role of dance captain and swing in the show – playing lead roles including Mr Bones – and was also assistant choreographer to Susan Stroman, who gave him his first West End role in the 1990s in Crazy For You.
Since training at London Studio Centre, Richard's career has spanned musical theatre, opera, production and directing. He toured internationally as assistant director on Riverdance and later worked as a producer in Mexico, and as dance captain in the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony.
