Over 60 Performances a Year at LSC
Performance at the Heart of our Unique Degree Programme
At London Studio Centre we believe in learning through experience when it comes to performing. Performance is at the heart of our degree programme and is embedded in all three years of training. This ethos makes all LSC graduates highly employable, working in acclaimed West End and Broadway productions as well as world renowned dance companies. Based at artsdepot in London, our students train in a unique professional performance environment every day, with access to over 40,000 sq. feet of state of the art studio space and two professional theatres, The Pentland Theatre and the Studio Theatre. Every third year student travels across the country in one of our four touring companies performing in a range of different theatres and for public audiences.
As our students work towards their performances this summer term, we take a look back at just some of the highlights of a year full of fantastic productions.
Liam Francis & Friends was a unique programme of dance bringing together current students, LSC alumni and industry professionals. The evening was curated by LSC alumnus Liam Francis who is working in the industry as a dancer and choreographer. This is just one of 10 specially commissioned performances in The Pentland Theatre that LSC Students perform in.
At LSC we are constantly encouraging our students to develop through collaboration. Design for Dance gives students the opportunity to create pieces in collaboration with design students from Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design. The partnership between LSC and CSM nurtures creativity, culminating in innovative and experimental works.
Student Platform takes place in the Spring and Autumn terms encouraging students to present their own choreography or work-in-progress in an informal setting. These performances provide an opportunity for students to present their diverse, individual and theatrical talent.
Our Spring Showcase presents the fantastic work of students covering all dance genres, singing and acting to display the talent and versatility at LSC. This eclectic programme celebrates the diversity of theatrical interests of students at London Studio Centre. First year student Callan Taverner was involved in 2018’s Spring Showcase remarked how “working towards public performance makes it professional… it’s not an exercise in a studio; you’re learning to dance!”.
This year we launched our Performance Team. Made up of first and second year students, they have given four performances so far at events including the CDMT conference in Liverpool and at MOVEIT! 2018.
Students across all years and pathways are focusing on our summer performances. The third year companies are preparing to embark on their tours this summer, performing in theatres from Yeovil to Stratford Upon Avon. Meanwhile, the first and second year students are preparing for the Dance Overture, held annually at the New Wimbledon Theatre.
