Overview

This programme (ages 8-18) gives students the opportunity to enhance their current training to achieve the technical standard and versatility required for entry into a range of vocational colleges alongside other gifted students who share their passion and drive to pursue a performing career.

Each student will have the opportunity to receive individual ongoing advice and potential career development from their panel of teachers. Many Associates have progressed into full-time school and into other leading vocational training establishments.

The emphasis is on the development of secure fundamental technique in classical ballet, contemporary dance and jazz dance, with the optional addition of voice technique/singing. There is also supplementary training of pointe work, hip hop, acting, tap dance, mental wellbeing as well as professional workshops.

This course runs on a yearly basis with the provision of progressive lessons for those wishing to stay on for more than one year. It runs on Saturdays for 30 weeks over three terms with presentations and showing opportunities at London Studio Centre’s in-house theatre.

Course entry is by audition only. Students already enrolled on the programme will be assessed during the year to provide feedback and to review the progression on the programme for future years.

LSC Associates staff are experts in their field and provide a taste of vocational training for groups of students that are gifted and talented. Places are accepted by audition only, so it gives the chance for gifted students to be among other gifted students who really share a similar passion for dance and performing. This also gives students a wider view of the industry, by dancing outside their local school classes whilst simultaneously enhancing their training within the local dance schools as well.  There is mentoring and guidance for students during the programme. The main benefits of the programme include:

  • Vocational style teaching by industry experts
  • Vocational school setting with professional resources
  • Professional musicians for ballet and contemporary classes
  • Making contacts for the future (staff including guest teachers and peers)
  • Audition preparation
  • London Studio Centre’s Summer Programme
  • Senior Associates receive a free audition for the full-time school courses

LSC Associates FAQ

LSC Associates is a 1-year programme.

The training is carefully planned across the full year so students can experience clear progression, consistent development and meaningful growth over time. Each term builds upon the last, allowing dancers to fully immerse themselves in the process and gain the greatest benefit from the training.

We understand that students may occasionally have other commitments or opportunities arise. However, consistency is a very important part of professional training and regular attendance plays a huge role in a dancer’s development.

We expect students to attend at least 80% of sessions across the year.

If exceptional opportunities arise, such as professional performance work, we are always happy to discuss arrangements on a case-by-case basis. Our priority is ensuring students continue to progress confidently and do not fall behind within the training.
Historically, students who attend consistently gain the greatest benefit from the programme both technically and personally.

The weekly structure of LSC Associates is a huge part of what makes the training so effective.

Consistent weekly training allows dancers to properly build upon corrections, feedback and development each week rather than only experiencing occasional workshop-style sessions. This consistency helps technique, confidence and performance quality become truly embedded over time. The programme is designed to support and enhance students’ regular dance school training while helping them stand out in an increasingly competitive industry.

Weekly training also allows us to get to know each dancer as an individual. This means we can mentor and support them appropriately, helping them grow not only as strong dancers but also as resilient, thoughtful and grounded young people.

With 10 sessions per term alongside school holidays and half term breaks, the structure remains manageable whilst still providing the consistency needed for real progression.

At LSC Associates, we keep class sizes intentionally small to ensure every dancer receives individual attention and support. We do not accept more than 20 students into a group.

This allows our faculty to get to know each student and help them progress both technically and artistically in a focused and encouraging environment.

Many of our students continue with LSC Associates for several years and we love seeing dancers grow and develop over time within the programme. Students audition each year to continue their journey with us.

While some foundations may be revisited, classes are never simply repeated. Training evolves alongside the students and is continually refreshed to keep dancers progressing, engaged and inspired.

Our aim is always to ensure students feel challenged, supported and excited by their training throughout their time with us.

Yes. Throughout the year, students take part in an assessment day within their dance classes, which is structured in a professional audition style format. This gives students the opportunity to demonstrate the skills, growth and understanding they have developed throughout the programme so far.

Rather than focusing on marks or scores, the assessment is designed to give meaningful insight into each dancer’s progress, current level and readiness to continue developing within the programme should they wish to return for another year.

Following the assessment, students receive individual feedback from the Principal discussing their progress, strengths and areas for continued improvement. The emphasis is always placed on growth, professionalism, responsibility and making the most of the training experience.

At LSC Associates, we believe development as a dancer is an ongoing process and that thoughtful feedback and self-awareness are far more valuable than a numerical mark.

We do not expect all students to arrive with confidence or experience in singing. However, vocal work is an important part of developing as a versatile performer and is a valuable skill within the industry.

At LSC Associates, we provide a fun, safe and supportive environment where students are encouraged to step outside their comfort zone and simply give things a try. We value qualities such as courage, openness and tenacity just as much as technical ability.

There is never pressure for students to feel perfect at singing and we will always support anyone who feels nervous or unsure throughout the process. If, over time, a student genuinely does not enjoy it, there is no obligation to continue.

We completely understand that exam periods can sometimes feel overwhelming. However, we strongly encourage students to remember why they dance and to maintain balance during these times.

At LSC Associates, we believe the best results come from consistency, organisation and wellbeing rather than burnout. Continuing dance training can often help students stay focused, motivated and mentally balanced during exam season.

We encourage students to revise little and often, avoid last minute cramming and continue making time for activities that support their wellbeing and confidence.

Where possible, we are also happy to support students during this time. Students may arrange to arrive early for quiet revision time and we may provide designated study spaces where appropriate.

We also provide guidance materials and resources to support both students and parents through exam season. Please refer to the attached “LSC Associates Guide to Managing Exam Revision & Wellbeing” for further support and advice.

Above all, we want students to enjoy both their training and academic journey whilst learning healthy habits that will support them far beyond school years.

We have many students who travel significant distances each week in order to train at LSC Associates, with some travelling up to three hours each way. In the past, we have even had students fly in from the Channel Islands.
Families often choose to make the journey because of the quality of training, the supportive environment and the opportunity to be surrounded by other dedicated and like minded young dancers.

We fully appreciate the level of commitment this can involve, which is why our timetable is carefully planned to support longer journeys where possible. Over the years, many families have also arranged lift sharing with other local students or those travelling part of the same route.

While the travelling can sometimes be challenging, we always aim to ensure the experience, training and opportunities make the commitment worthwhile.
